  1. It doesn't look like anyone's been on with the info, have you tried the local tackle shops?
  2. lol, I know that, that's where I read them, but I always thought that there was something worth publishing in them, particlarley the historic stuff about hong kong etc. a great read.
  3. can't seem to follow the link, where is it?
  4. which fishery is it carl? I had wild brownies leaping everywhere this weekend, but they were attached to the line. It's a 2 mile hike from the nearest parking but so worth it.
  5. i bought a pair of snowbees, £15 from the local tackle shop, I then bought a pair of tesco's own because the wife wouldn't allow me out with the snowbees as they look wierd. The tesco pair cost £10. With amber lenses they're just as good, but the dark lenses make it hard work if the weather isn't dazzlingly sunny. for warm sunny places (ie not the north east of england today) I think the tesco specials would come first. Some of the tesco ones look just the same as the 39.99 pairs from the tackle shop.
  6. just read chris's review, may have to take a look at Amazon, whatever happened to the "from the privvy" articles, did they get published?
  7. can't get into the link as it needs to attach a cookie, and work wont let me. if anyone else can give me an idea I would be grateful. Another advantage would be that your leeder isn't constantly getting shorter, which added to the hastle involved, may mean that you don't change flies when that's exactly what you should be doing.
  8. how do they work, let's be honest before we dismiss this out of hand, on a cold october morning, re tieing a fly can be tricky, how do these work carl?
  9. I can't advise on locations, but Ireland is home to thousands of fly anglers, they locals can't understand the UK obsession with coarse angling. most of the rivers on the west coast have runs of salmon, other than that, you'll need someone else to reply.
  10. No more sea trout, it must have been the extra water which brought them up so early in the season. my catch return's going to look a bit more interesting than usual this season however.
  11. hadn't looked in myself............ Cat's on drugs, costing me a fortune...........she better behave herself!!! (yeah like I mean it!) The cat's called fimbles. well... the fly season is in full swing hence I'm not on here as much, added to which I'm setting up a new company and I've taken on the chair role for the Junior Chamber of Commerce for the North east. I'm very busy but do miss reading this on going saga.
  12. carl, it's not a huge secret, but I'd rather not dicuss the precise location on open forum, ID tackle or bagnall's will be able to give you a good idea or PM me for more info. It has been discussed on North East fishing forums in the past. Went again last night and spent 20 minutes casting to what turned out to be a shoal of very small dace, glad I caught one at last or I may have ended up staying there all evening. No sea trout last night.
  13. I stole a 40 minute fishing detour on my way home last night. There's a small river with free fishing for a mile or so just up stream of the tidal river tyne. The water has a decent head of browns and grayling and gets the odd salmon nosying up it to see if it can get over the weir (they can't) and you can pick off sea trout, usually from June 16th onwards. I fished from the weir downstream for about 100 yards. I fished a single black spider pattern. I had nothing for the first 50 yards, but the river is in light flood at the moment so regular haunts may change, I continued downstream, past some overhanging trees when bang, in the fast current the tip of my 5 weight pulled round and I was into a fish. Given added weight it took longer than usual to land the 4oz sparkler, my earliest sea trout by over a month. Needless to say I worked the pool hard and had another two sea trout before having a brownie, all about the same size, all returned, but all making my day a little special. I guess that these fish tend to hand around the tidal reaches as they mature, but it was great fun to catch them in this snatched break, I'll be back again later this week I hope.
  14. scary isn't it.....................just how much suff got through my Norton package has really freeked me out.
  15. just a bog standard ep -package. the syptoms sound exactly like what was stated in the link Ian brought up.....but explorer isn't one of the programs running so I couldn''t end it. i think I'll drag the pc into work tommorow, one of the IT guys there might be able to have a play. thanks folks, at least I don't feel like I'm on my own.
  16. Hi, thanks, sorry I should be more precise, all programs are still available through task manager. As I turn on my pc it normally goes through a start up procedure which ends when all the icons for the programs i generally use show on screen and I have the windowstoolbar along the bottom. now all i have is my background, the screen is otherwise blank. They all show on the screen, and then dissapear, like something is running to stop them appearing. as a short term measure, how do I manually open up the windows toolbar? Just to give you a bit more info, if I press the button in the top right of this explorer screen, to put explorer into the bottom toolbar, it just dissapears.
  17. Spyware appers to be gone, the problem now is that on turning on the PCmy usual desktop opens......and then dissappears. I can still get into task manager and opened the net up that way. Any idea what I've done/how I put it right............sorry......very embarassing
  18. tried the two sets of freeware Ian suggested, I do need to buy a better package, but Macafee constant telling me what it's up to is annoying.
  19. This program is free at servage http://www.servage.net/page/websitebuilder/ has anyone used it, should I, should I splash the cash and buy something else. Please remember I am an absolute novice
  20. cheers guys. I'll get running this evening. thanks
  21. bit of honesty there andy!! hope you have time to go fishing I'll run anything to get these shifted, but once cleaned out, what do you recommend. Macafee and Norton were raved about not so long ago, have things moved on further than I remember??
  22. Sorry meant Trojans. I've picked up an IT illness of somesort and keep getting a popup for a company purporting to sell me software to clear up dozens of pages of porn I have on my PC at home. This came as something of a surprise to my wife and I as, frankly, I haven't got enough time to even dream of going to such sights. I've upgraded my MacAfee software and much of the constant barrage of crap has dissappeared but we still get some. Has anyone any tips for getting rid of it?
  23. Interesting session, at one stage I'd had 6 tangles in less than 30 minutes, but thankfully got into a flow (and I'd tied up a few dozen leeders over the weeks coming up to it) Only one fish was weighed in, 1lb 4oz not caught by me. 7 of us fished and from the chats we had I certainly had the most fish, I was at 27 when I lost count, but landing two at once was not rare. Most fish were between 4" and 6", I lost one that may have gone 9" on a good day, but it wasn't well hooked, taking my indicator fly which came as a bit of a shock to me (the reason for which became clear 20 yards upstream when I say the may flies on the water, the first may fly hatch I've seen on the tyne). I started as planned but after the tangles fished two flies rather than 3 for a few hours before going back to three, which was then fine, must have been casting nerves. At one stage I was laid on the bank, my rod in two pieces (still with the line going through), with the tip sticking over the edge passing a fly passed a trout that was tight in the edge under a bush. Looking back it was probably fortunate for me, but at the time I was a tad upset when a 5" tyne special came out of nowhere and took the bait. From the results, and the high numbers of small fish, I suspect that the main trout in the river are now sea trout spawn save for one or two that overwinter. It bodes well for the sea trout fishing but means that I'll have to find somewhere else to fish If I want to catch my tea before June 16th. No salmon were seen though some are in the river now. I really enjoyed myself and will take part again, thanks for the suggestions. I'm going up to the river Irthing where the fish are a little larger, and will be trying my luck there. tight lines
