  1. Yeah give it a few more weeks and it'll start to poke out of the water!!
  2. I agree with Tigger... I mean 1.75lb test curve shouldn't just shatter like that. Take the many pieces back if its fairly new?
  3. Yeah and the Thames becomes semi tidal at Richmond and non tidal at Teddington so thats fine for me.
  4. Na just one of those random facts you pick up
  5. Ay... you've just said it isn't allowed and it is allowed...? I've read those bylaws and already know you can do it i'm just after what restrictions are in place such as baits and hooks which a couple of guys have helped with.
  6. In Harrisburg, Pennsylvania it is illegal to have sex with a truck driver inside a toll booth. FACT!
  7. When I first read about being able to fish for Eels during close season I thought it would be a way for people to bend the rules a little. As for me I would be going to fish for Eels. Even during open season when I used to fish the Thames at Richmond Lock even on normal coarse tackle ledgering with maggots 9 out of 10 catches were Eels anyway. There used to be a couple of old blokes that fished with sodding great sea rods with line that looked like string using chicken liver as bait. They used to catch some massive Eels to take home and eat edit: Plus if you were trying to get around the rules... Why bother? Why not just go to a lake or canal?
  8. I can waz pretty high up a wall .. Anyone?? No?? Oh alright then!!
  9. I've read the Thames bylaws and I know for a fact that fishing for Eels in the tidal section of the Thames isn't covered by the close season. It says you can fish with rod and line but doesn't say anything about hooks.. saying that all the bylaws ever talk about is rod and line with no mention of hooks. I just have to find out the exact details of hooks and baits. I'm pretty sure worm is ok as my thoughts were confirmed by one post above and another site.
  10. Trust me.. The Thames is teeming with them but in the places where this is an issue as long as you take care and return them i don't see a problem?

    THAT'S BIG

    Bloody hell.............
  12. I mean river Pike.. Gonna start on them locally until i get a car sorted out for myself then start stretching out and go to some still waters.
  13. Right i know where your on about but i've never actually been there. Seen the Slug & Lettuce in passing but never bothered to go in. Will take a look around next time i'm in Kingston cheers for the info
  14. I think that would be great to see a big pike actually chasing your lure. I am going to start Piking come open season. Never really fished Carp or Pike but i'm pretty sure i'm a Pike kinda guy. Lure fished for Perch which was pretty exciting watching them take the spinners. Some were pretty large approaching 3lbs.
  15. Cheers for the info.. Could you link me to what sort of hooks i'd be looking for. Bare in mind is been over 2 seasons since i've fished so i'm a lil rusty.
  16. See now that makes sense to me.. I've read that you can use worm while ledgering. But again think its gotta be worth calling and checking.
  17. Ok i know Kingston pretty well as i'm always there but have never fished it. What stretch is the Canbury Gardens stretch? Back of town centre?
  18. Aww unlucky man. That sucks! I've never really been serious Carp fishing. Went to a lake in Wokingham once which was so heavily stocked we ended up catching 20+ 4lbs - 8lbs-ers but thats it.
  19. Yeah i'm talking about tidal Thames waters. I've never heard of bapping :S doesn't say anything about it in the bylaws. Suppose i'll call the relevent people for info.
  20. I'm far from an expert but i'm pretty sure the line comes out of the top and you press a button to cast *checks* Ok found this first search: Closed Face Reels The closed face reel was invented to make life a lot easier and generally simplify the fixed spool design. Anglers would often complain of tangles and lack of line control over distance when trotting. Even though the closed face is a relative of the fixed spool, the opinion held by anglers tend to differ as to which is the better reel. With the closed face, instead of having a bail arm it has a metal pin, which is situated inside a cap, which fits over the spool. Once the cap is in place, a metal drum fits over the top to ensure that line doesn't pass it. The metal cap rotates when the reel handle is turned and with the help of the pin or bail arm, lays the line evenly across the spool. The casting operation is much the same as that with the fixed spool. With the closed face however, all you have to do is depress the button on the front of the reel. This releases the metal pin and allows the line to peel off, much better for speed waggler fishing. The closed face has some of the same features as the fixed spool such as clutch control and anti reverse. I feel that the closed face reel has a real place in angling, however with the majority of fishing these days being predominantly carp, the fixed spool is a tougher option all round, but that's just my opinion.
  21. I know its allowed but i was wondering if there were any specific rules you have to follow? Any input would be great Marc
