  1. Ordered mine this morning £95.00 from http://www.advancedelementskayaks.co.uk, Will be delivered tomorrow morning.
  2. The actual thickness may not relate to the strenght of that area in terms of the boats structure. A quick solution in the mean time would be to line the cup holder with an old camping mug or the such like, being plastic you could potentially hole any part of the boat with a wrongly whealded knife, a yanked line and hook so a small amout of care is required. after all the Apollo moon lander had a skin thickness of approx 2 sheets of baking foil.
  3. I think you may find that this thread is concerning cosmetic floors. the tread concerning structural floors is also available of the main page. ( a much better end of story)
  4. Before anyone else gets on thier high horse, here's a couple of points: 1) I own a Prowler 4.5. (one of the first batch into the country) 2) Life is more important than colour or graphics. 3) They powers at Johnson Outdoors will sort most products with problems. (that comes from experience). 4) If Johnsons/Ocean Kayaks are suppling new or seconds goods which are potentially dangerous or are proved to be the cause of someones death/injury they maybe liable for legal action. Some how I don't see them doing that. If you have a problem refer to point 3. Surely it would make more sence to contact one of the suppliers of these "seconds" kayaks via e-mail and get the exact specs. As I have found with my dealings with Johnsons there are no problems to big that can't be sorted out. The first Prowler 4.5's will be slightly different to the prowlers 4.5's that will be sold in a years time as the model develops. My advice would be to keep in contact with johnsons and help each other to sort the teething problems
  5. By seconds it would appear to be only in the colour mixes and graphics moulded into the boats. It is not likely the would supply a boat shaped like a banana. Anyway what difference does it make if your kayak is bright pink and has the phrase "they beat me with a stick to get lots of money out of me" instead of "made in New Zealand"
  6. Myself and Snakey1 are in tywyn from late on the 8th till 17th. Now we've got the 4.5's rigged up it's time for them to get a tope testing.
  7. I have a waterproof V.H.F. and i keep it in a waterproof pouch not just to protect the radio it also makes it float. The whole thing is strung to my PFD so, therefore when i'm floating my radio bobs along next to me.
  8. The Coastguard run a database of craft large and small keeping such details as owner, boat, points of contact and safety gear carried. Should you ever need them they may have a better idea of where you may be, what to look for and how much/type of self rescue gear you have. If you use V.H.F. radio (some areas allow the use of mobile phone) and contact the coastguard with your boat name they can the call up all the details you have given them. If you have logged your trip it also means they can contact you should the need arise. The scheme is called CG66. More details available using the link below. website address: http://www.mcga.gov.uk/c4mca/mcga-hmcg_res...a-hmcg-cg66.htm Safe kayaking one and all.
  9. After watching last night program it makes you wonder what you need to be classed as experianced! For one experianced kayaker and a second supposed experianced kayaker firstly not to have got an upto date weather forcast and secondly not to not check each others safety equipment, boat and gear storage was stupidity beyond belief (especially as this was taking place in November). Then to not have informed anyone of thier plan of action was realy clever but the best bit was the second kayaker arriving 4 hours late and then the pair setting of in the dark with only head torches to light the way. Really the should have stopped before they started. In the index of men being man or monkey these 2 were mostly monkey.
  10. I've got an Palm Ocean Tour. Plenty of pockets, 2 cliping point (1 front, 1 back), a large pocket on the back for a water bladder. off the top of my head it cost £60. The rough rules of thumb are, 1.) The minimum rating should be 50N, ( the heavier you are the more lift you will need). 2.) The fit, Buy it to fit you now. Wear what you normaly paddle in when you try it on for size. 3.) Spend on it what you think your live is worth. Lets be safe out there.
  11. From what i understand the price at the moment is about £70. I am also lead to beleve there will be pricing changes later in the year and with a rough guess it will be upwards.
  12. check out www.marinescene.co.uk I got a Silva S12 from them last week. Cheep as chips (£78.50) and waterproof plus all the bits in the box you could need, for added protection they do a waterproof bag for £9.99 and they give you a floating keyring with every order. There are loads of places to do your radio licence check out www.rya.org.uk I've paid £80 for the 8 hour course and exam.
  13. Have just spoken to Andrew at Johnsons. All the bits are being flown from New Zealand so we should be able to get everything fitted and working by the end of next week. Happy now. So I can now spend this weekend falling out of the kayak and trying to get back into it, then go on fishy trip next weekend with all the bit fitted and working. There will be 2 U.K. versions available, 1 with fish finder and bits and 1 without but the bits will be available to retro fit the fish finder.
  14. Join the British Canoe Union, they have a list of usable water, you also get upto £5,000,000 of 3rd party cover, a nice sticker for your boat and other goodies. All for under £30 a year.
  15. Sure is going to be a fine craft, 2 is enough to fill my dining room.
  16. That I'm waiting to find out. I have called Andrew at Johnsons but he is in a meeting. According to his email which recieved after my initial post there is a shipment of bits required to make the Elite 4.5 fish finder ready coming over by air and due to land next week. When i find out more I'll let you know
  17. The e-mail has arrived from Andrew at Johnsons who i will be talking to later today. When we went to WMCC to find out about these kayaks our supplier was given (by Andrew who was in his office on a Saturday) 2 prices standard and fish finder ready, we chose fish finder ready and this we decided to purchase. On the 10/07/2006 I spoke to Andrew at Johnsons regarding the models of fish finder available for the Elite 4.5. I also spoke to the kayak designer, Tony, who was over from New Zealand at the time. At now time was I told I would need to get extra bits. The teaser information that had been posted all over the internet showed fish finder ready versions with mounting brackets ect. Lets hope we can resolve this today so we can get to the point of giving glowing reports on a product that could be at the leading edge of this fast growing sport. It may well be worth Johnsons sorting out a U.K. website giving us detail of the U.K products.
  18. Recieved my Prowler 4.5 Elite complete with fish finder (humminbird 363) on Monday. The service from my supplier (West Midlands Canoe Centre) has been fantastic. Upon unpacking everything it would appear that the bits to fit and make work the fish finder were not present (bracket to fix fish finder to kayak, power lead with inline fuse, battery holder and battery). I e-mailed WMCC on Tuesday and telephoned them, they forwared my email to Andrew at Johnsons. This morning I phoned WMCC and was told that my email had been forwarded to Andrew at Johnson and it would appear that the bits to make the fish finder ready version of the Prowler Elite 4.5 are all optional extras & that Andrew would be in touch with me ( i still have not had any contact from him). So it would appear that if you want to spend nearly a grand on a fish finder ready version of the prowler 4.5 Elite and a Humminbird fish finder be prepared to pay extra for the optional extras that make it work. (by the way you get all these bits in New Zealand. mind you isn't that where these boats come from? (strange that)).
  19. On the subject of sharks here is a item from the BBC Wales website http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/north_west/5224746.stm Make a change from seeing turtles in the area.
  20. Mine has arrived, am going to collect it tommorow p.m. of sat a.m. Am going to take it up to a lake localy to try it out. will have it at tywyn next weekend along with snakey1.
  21. I'll be stuck fishing on the beach at tywyn or by the Dysynni mouth. Waiting for my new prowler 4.5 elite to turn up next month
  22. Maybe, maybe not. the problem is the blood coming from a wound would not clot as it should, a dressing may slow the flow. at the end of the day make sure you don't get caught by the teeth.
  23. Great to see so many people keen on catching tope on yaks. Just a little bit of safety advice for you. Tope have an anti-coagulant coating on thier teeth so if one bites or grazes your skin you could potentialy bleed to death before you could paddle back to shore. Take care, cut off hooks from the tope they will rust away in a few weeks. Enjoy
