The funniest thing I saw was on the Trent and Mersey canal near Acton bridge was when I walked up to this man (Carp angler).I asked him Have you caught anything and he said "no".He had 2 rods out and a boat came and he reeled his waggler rod in and he had left his legder rod out in the middle of the canal. All of a sudden this boat came passed in the middle of the canal and his rod started moving and he grabbed his rod and it started to bend and he managed to snapp the line instead of the rod. That was lucky.That was only about 2 months ago. Another funny story was when this fisherman had fell asleep in a match on the Shropshire union canal and this boat nearly run over his pole. Sometimes I use worms in a match on Commercial venues because if i am struggling for bites i will always have a bite on it and it never hardly comes of and I have had tench from 1-3lb on worm. Thanks for the advice up to know. Regards James

Can any of you tell me what is your best bait for Tench? I want to catch some tench on this pit that can get very weeded over in summer can someone help? I have never fished for tench on there yet. Regards James

The best thing about having hooklengths is if you get snagged you will only lose your hook length.But the disadvantage is if the hooklenght breaks when you have got a big fish on.The disadvantage if you don't have a hooklength and you get snagged you can lose your float.The advantage to not having a hooklength is if you get a bigger fish on you have got an 80% chance that it won't break. Yesterday I went fishing on the Trent and Mersey canal at Acton Bridge and had 6 lb in weight and I had 1 descent fish which was 1 lb I guess in weight on the pole with 2s elastic in the pole on pinkie. Regards James

I would use pinkies and squats on a size 24 hooks and use some ground bait.I would use 0.06 for the hook lenghth for the bottom and the main line 0.09.If you are fishing the pole I would have 2s or 3s elastic.I think I know two canals not far from London is the Grandunion canal or the Oxford canal it is about half an hour -an hour I guess from London but I'm not from round there.You will need Licences for the canals probably . I would fish pretty light for the small fish. . Regards James

The water is not very deep because there is a lot of weed in it especialy summer.Also the lake is not that big.There are only a few special fetures e.g reeds to fish to.Also it is pretty much like a canal. Regards James

You don't see many anglers fishing canals and rivers for carp any more. Near where I live most of the carp have died on the Trent and Mersey canal and the River Weaver and now you see most of them fishing commercials e.g Brookside fisheries Snake 2 you just fish up in the water and watch your elastic go out of your pole thats it.But I will keep trying for carp on the river this year to see how many is left. I asked this man has he caught anything and he said yes and he had 2 big carp. Regards James
