raised trawler

i was watching a trawler being raised on telly (i think it was a late night police thing) no-one knew why it had sank as it suddenly just sank (off the isle of wight) when it was raised its net was out ,when the net was raised a ww2 torpedo was in it (probably the reason for its sinking) .having owned a boat in portsmouth and fished all round the island i had the charts ,several regions are marked as "rough ground" and there are a few restricted areas such as munition dumps ,all are marked clearly on the charts ,does anyone know if the vessel was in one of these areas? .seems a bit negligent of the skipper if the vessel was there ,but there are LOTS of munitions caught outside of these areas every year ,surely the winches could be fitted with a slipping clutch as reels are and set to operate at a certain weight (nowadays the catches are very small so shouldent pose a problem )possibly could help with catching the odd submerine as well ,maybe a cutting device could operate by remote control from the wheelhouse?

Why would a trawler sink just because it snagged a big lump? I thought that was a regular thing for those guys. Submarines going the other way are quite another matter... and presumably the WW2 torpedo had stopped.

I had to go to Nottingham for a couple of days this week and went into an Army Surplus in Meadow Lane, they have a small torpedo which is about 12ft long, I think it is for sale, everything is now a days. :D:D
