Does the lamp brighten again if it is pumped again when it fades?

If so it sounds like it has a small slow pressure leak.

As no fuel is coming out, if it is a leak, it will be near the top, probably where the stem joins the tank.

Try making a frothy liquid of water and washing up liquid and coat the likely area of the leak, then pump it up.

If bubbles appear, then that's the problem.

Otherwise it could be a blockage that only allows fuel through when the pressure is at it's maximum, then closes of the fuel supply as the pressure drops off.

In that case, taking it apart as much as possible, and cleaning with a fine piece of wire might do the trick.

Sounds like the needle needs replacing - used to be inexpensive and available from tackle shops - not sure now though as most now appear to only stock spares for coleman lamps.

if its been kept in a shed (applies to all pressure lamps) check the air intake parts ,spiders just love them for cosy nests ,their prey soon blocks them up ,a finger on the end of the vapouriser will soon show if the needles had it (turn on and off fuel knob).

check the fuel intake on the very bottom of the tank (will need a full strip down) it has a very fine gauze which easily gets blocked hippolites ,aida and petromax lamps are basically the same.is the little pressure release screw fully down

but i expect there are importers in the uk ,its the best oil lamps there are i have a petromax ,an aida and a optimus which is a cone without the self heating jet :)
