Thornbacks from the beach

Hi All

 

I've been targeting thornys for the last 5 weeks off a mark on the isle of sheppey.

 

I know its very early and the first flush of peelers has not happened due to the cold N.E.winds,but,I have caught 2 on micro squid.

 

Apert from crab and squid is there another good bait that anyone has had success with and what is your favoured ray rigs.

They are like rockin horse pooh round here but I will try whitstable fish market.

prawns are the killer bait down here try them as i cant see location making much diference as they are still thornies eh!

i find squid as good a bait as any for thornies

A long strip of fresh mackerel or half a Calamari is the preferred bait of choice in my neck of the woods.

Davy you could use Sheppey rokers for bait up your way

Two sandeels topped and tailed - whipped onto a 2/0 pennel with bait elastic on a pulley rig. A neat compact bait good for using behind a bait shield if you need that extra distance.

2/0 or 3/0 on a Pulley Rig. Squid or Mackerel is the bait to use round my way (North Somerset/Bristol Channel).
