most of the people in the comunidad valenciana (especialy the older ones) dont actually speak spanish. they speak a language called valenciano. it is a language that dates from the middle ages,and was banned by franco. now hes gone,its spoken a lot.

some people call it a dialect,but its about as much a "dialect" as welsh is to english! thing is, literally,each village has its own words/customs,!so its very possible that the village of your ex used this.
