Rod advice please

Thanks for all the advice, I've now ended up with 3 different set ups :)

9'6" #7/8 for the large stillwaters.

9' #5 for the river and small waters.

9' #9 'cos I fancy trying a bit of Pike flyfishing too.

Cheers

Peter,

Nearly everyone seems to agree that weight forward is the best type of line for a beginner. Apparently they are easier to cast. Double taper lines are virtually extinct among reservoir trout fishermen.

I assume you are not intending to fish streams?

well i hae been toying with the idea of fly fishing for a couple of years and i will be going to the Hampshire Avon this year (as last year) only this year want to try using the fly. back home i will mostly use the fly rod for chub fishing and the occasional trip to a still water for trout. there are not any trout streams that i know of where i live. Thanks for the advice i will opt for weight forward 6 weight line to go with a six weight rod of about 9 foot.

take a look at my blog
