First ever?

I'd like to make a claim to have caught the first ever fish on floating mini hot-dog sausage! The sausages don't float, you see: I was using floating crust pieces, lowered onto the water surface, just under the rod-tip (a technique I'm using a lot at the moment). I caught three carp on the crust, but then a shoal of small rudd moved in and began bashing away at the bread, knocking it off the hook. I just thought I'd try lowering a hot-dog sausage onto the surface instead (I usually hair-rig and leger the sausages): It sat there like a mini submarine for a few minutes, then the rod was almost pulled in as a carp took it!

You meet all kinds of animal on the riverbank.

Before boilies were invented one of the best baits was sausage, pork for floaters and beef for sinkers.

I could tell you a true story of the first carp to get caught on sausage, at least it was the first one that any of us had heard of in the south of England. News spread like wildfire and for about a year it was the "in" bait in the Darenth and Medway valleys.

Lead directly to the "specials" and then the Egg white coated catfood boilies.

It's been all downhill since :D

On the lakes at home, I remember there was a week a few years back, when one unusual angler used frank furter sausage, and for one week everything ate them and everyone had a beano, espeacially the local tescos which sold out of frank furters for a week!

Well done and tight lines!

Have been on holiday for a few months in france, I see there are a few new members. Anyway anybody been out fishing lately, what baits are working. As lonsdalepark said I have also experienced people using frank furter, they caught a lot at first but it has slowed off now.
