Cheap flavour, sweeteners, enhancers etc?

Right then chaps, I have been rolling my own bait this past year and thoroughly enjoyed it, which I think is half of the battle.

 

However, as I did'nt know any different, I went down the road of buying all the 'name' stuff regards flavourings, enhancers, attractors, and sweeteners, etc.

 

This I'm sure you will know can work out very expensive! Which sort of defeats the object of making one's own boilies.

 

So, I wonder if anyone can come up with some far cheaper alternatives to the following:

 

Mainline flavours- Tutti frutti, strawberry, etc.

Rod hutchinson Protaste Plus

Rod hutchinson Amino Blend Supreme

Rod Hutchinson Secret Agent

Minamino

Nutramino

 

Any other or further suggestions would also be greatly appreciated?

Anything decent with regards to bait additives will always be about the same price as long as it has Rod Hutchinson, or Nutrabaits written on the side.

Best thing to do is order in bulk from places that specialise in bait ingredients. http://www.qualitybaits.co.uk is okay but there are better. Have a good search through the web and you'll find them.

blackcatbaits.co.uk do a massive range of flavours and will probably allow you to buy at trade price if you make a large order.

leavalleybaits.co.uk sell some top bait ingredients too.

Remember, amino acids, csl, betaine and flavours can be bought without the brand names on them sometimes.

I used to buy CSL by the gallon from an animal feed warehouse for about a quid a bottle and i bought some betaine direct from a local bait company by simply visiting the factory for pennies.

Just keep looking. Sounds as though you've just bought the stuff that every hobbyist tackle shop sells.

Bear in mind though, if those ingredients have been kicking everyone elses butt then you're best of sticking with what you've got

I have to assume that Minamino & Nutramino are amino acid mixes of some sort. Maybe a body-building or health food store or maybe a pharmacy?

 

Probably have to experiment a little but I imagine you could put together similar at a much lower cost.

 

Minamino is also the brand name of a syrup sold in South Africa at least. Looks like it would contain most anything a carp's taste buds could wish for. Here.

 

As for the others, I suspect the trick would be finding out what was in them and if you could do that, you could easily make up a similar item at home for much less money.
