Fishing chair advice

Hi all

I am looking for advice on purchasing a decent fishing chair so looking for opinions of users.

I am old and have a bad back and have also just recovered (recovering?) from an accident when I broke my neck so I have decided to treat myself to a chair that is comfortable and safe :D

My current chair is a Badger (cheap) and it is neither of the above. If I shift forwards or backwards the legs have a habit of folding up underneath and depositing you on your ar sorry, the bank :D If you had your fingers in the wrong place it would probably amputate them as well, so:

Comfort - very important. Supportive, and with arms. Weight doesn't matter as I have no plans to be carrying it very far. Probably a recliner.

Long in the seat (front to back) with good thigh support.

Safety - stable and easy to get in and out of for one with limited mobility. The arms help here.

Price - now let's not go crazy! I don't want to spend a fortune on a "name"

I have looked at the korum style chairs but I'm not all that bothered about the attachments. The only time I need that stuff is if I am fishing the pole, and I have a seatbox for that. I get the feeling that they have saved money on the seating to pay for the attachments.

I am pretty interested in the Nash "Daddy Longlegs" The extra height would make it easier to get in and out and it looks well padded but I have never seen one. Anyone seen one or better yet bought one?

There is quite a good looking chair from a company called Starbaits (might be tied in with Sensas) anyone know of them?

http://www.mullarkeys.co.uk/fishing/chairs...starbaits/9374/ Looks comfy but no arms, second thoughts it looks a bit tto much like my Badger.

Any other suggestions?

Before anyone suggests it, there are no tackle shops up here where I can go to look at them or sit on them so I will be buying completely blind over the net.

BTW I'm 6' and 15stone :)

Thanks

Dave

Dave there's rafts to choose from. Like you I have a bad back and neck and I've found the pro logic & jrc chairs to be sound. My advice would be to get a chair without arms though as they really do get in the way and just add extra weight. The adjustable legs front and back are pretty much a must in my op.

I had a look at the Nash Daddy Long Legs chair today and it looked ideal for my post hip op requirements; it is on a special from Chapmans Angling look here

But Looking at Amazon I saw this

It is a high fully adjustable chair and comes with everything you need for a fishing station and its post free

That ProLogic chair in the link doesn't look like it has leg locks, and as Sportsman said, that's not good. My chair is similar but had locking pins that fell out, I had to use bolts and wingnuts instead.

I think you should go to your local tackle shop or take a trip to more than one to test some chairs. I wouldnt want to recommend something that you bought and it turned out not to suit you at all.

If you try them out in the shop, getting in and out, reclining, carrying weight and anything else that concerns you then you can pick the exact model thats good for you. I'm sure the staff in the shop can give you some time, particularly if you go when its not busy.

Good luck!

Fruitloopy I think Dave's problem is that his nearest Coarse fishing stockist would involve a round trip of a hundered or more miles :D

Angly the Pro-Logic chair has a cam type lock I was loooking at the basic seat when I had a shufty at the Nash.

It would be closer to 200 miles Tony :D

I had a look at some reviews of the Nash chair and it didn't come out very well. The reviews (including one by our own Budgie) were fairly old, around the time the chair first came out so maybe it has improved since.

I have been looking again at the Korum chair and it does seem to have a couple of advantages. You can use Preson onbox accessories which suits me, and you can also get a set of long legs (Preston) which would raise the chair up and make getting in and out of it easier.

Might be worth a look for your condition as well Tony B)

Dave,

Take a close look at the Korum chairs-i've found them to be very good.I don't think they've skimped on materials and construction and favoured the attachments. They seem to be very well built for the money. One thing i do like about them in particular,is that they can be adjusted to sit quite high off the ground and are very stable.I don't have any mobility issues, but i'm 6'4" tall and find that a taller chair is far easier to 'escape' from.Combining the seat with their rucbag package and you've got a really easy bit of gear to carry around.Hope this helps.

I used my Wychwood standard chair yesterday with the legs at maximum extension and did not have a problem; It gave me an 18" seat height which was perfect and I used a bivvy table to put the gear and bait boxes on so it looks like I might have saved myself a few bob.

I have one of the JRC chairs (it's got Terry Hearn's name on it) and it could be what you're looking for. I've had it many years and it's still as good as new, very well built indeed. It is reclinable, has good mudfeet, all legs are adjustable and is very comfy. No armrests I'm afraid (personally, I don't like them).

The only downside for me is that it's pretty heavy, and lugging it up and down rivers and over fences and stiles can be a pain. But if that's not an issue, I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend it.

I have other items by JRC too, and they are all very well made indeed.

Looking around the web, this might suit your needs: http://www.fishingmagic.com/news/article/mps/uan/4423

Maybe this: http://www.gofishing.co.uk/fishingtackle/G...ecialist-Chair/ (I think this is the one I need!)

I don't think my one is available any more.
