James, it depends on the waters you're fishing and the size of the carp.

For most commercial carp waters a 3lb test curve rod is way too high. For a weedy gravel pit containing very big carp such a rod could be very suitable.

You've also got to consider the action of the rod. Most 3lb test curve rods have stiffish actions, which is another reason why they aren't suitable at the close ranges fished on most commercial waters.

Thanks

I will be using the rod for a medium sized lake in france in 3 weeks casting about 60metres out i think maybe a bit less on a 2oz ledger the main fish are mid teens and are always caught with 20s comng out quite often and 30s not uncommon with some 40 and 50's every now and then

Here is a percentage of each size of fish in the lake

12-16LB= 40%

18-25LB=35%-My targets

25-35LB=20%-" "

35-50LB=15%

I caught my PB carp from here at 16lb 8oz fishing about 50 60 metres out on "the ledge"

If the lake holds 50s, you may be glad of a heavy rod. It may take some of the sport out of the doubles but think how you'd feel if the carp of a lifetime took your bait and your gear just wasn't up to the task.

The line weight you mentioned seems a bit light to me but then UK/Euro tactics frequently call for lighter line than I'd ever be comfortable with.

probably better to use a nice 2lb through action if your only fishing 60yds out ,it would be fine in a swim without too many snags and very forgiving
