I have seen the rods on the Used Tackle Display at the Scalex Tackle Show and they are fibreglass, but that is to take nothing away from them as you and others have pointed out, indeed they offer a reliable way into Carp and specimen fishing.

At the end of the day its the business end you need to be worrying about.

I used a Daiwa strickforce 1.75tc rod (free collecting from embassy fag tokens) on its own for years and had a 20 out of Trimley top lake on it.

Then for a few years it was used alongside a drennan super specialist with which I landed an 18lb Ghostie.

Now I have a pair pf fox warriors the daiwa is used for floater work and the drennan for tench, bream etc than it was intended.

Tony U - I'd love to lay hands on one of them. I have used glass for years and love the newer e-glass but only in shorter rods.

The only ones I've used in those lengths were cheap surf rods and they were pretty clunky and heavy with T/C at a guess up in the 5-6lb range. OTOH, the lighter action rods and especially any made for use in the UK where appearance is important should be interesting.

Look at the following link.

www.conoflex.co.uk/freshwater.html

Conoflex bought out the old North Western Fibreglass blanks and I beleive these were amongst the best glass blanks ever made.

Much better than the Dragon Rods which are after all a mass produced entry level rod from the far east.

Jeepster - wasn't lusting after them but just wanted to hold one to see what the action felt like.

Tony - good site. As usual, some surprises when I expect one thing and see another. US casting rods use lots smaller rings and more of them. Usually works out to about 1 ring per foot of rod length plus a tip ring. Base ring will never be over a 20 and often smaller. Your casting rods - at least based on this site - go with the same fewer and larger pattern as the spinning rods.

Fewer and wide diameter rings are for use when casting fixed spool reels, whether on Carp or Beach rods.

We tend to use more and smaller diameter rings for beachcasting with multiplier reels, much more like your casting rods; as the Conoflex site points out.

From their site

Blackadder 12' Multiplier

4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 9 | 13 | 20 (spacing)

10 | 10 | 12 | 12 | 16 | 20 | 25 (ring size)

US would probably be using 8 rather than 10 toward the tip and likely 4 (or 5) of them, the base ring would more likely be a 20, and I'd expect at least 10 to maybe 12 total rings.

I'm curious if the ring size/spacing they recommend will keep the line from rubbing on the blank when the rod is under a load.

Their suggested sizes and spacing obviously work else a rod maker wouldn't be likely to suggest it. Just looks odd to my eyes since we'd do it a bit differently.

Those rods you have bought are the ones which i bought from tacklefest last year. I bought one of them for £10. You cant go wrong for that price, i think its a brilliant rod. Ive use it off a 10ft wall and caught a couple of flatties from 0.4lb-1.5lb and had no problems lifting them up. Ive caught a lot of little fish on it as well. but i cant knock the rod for that price.
