New Carp Fisherman

Hi

Need to know a couple of things for Carp fishing.

Do I need a fancy Rod Pod or will standard rod holders with a cheap alarm do?

Whats the best way of getting loose feed around the bait 50 yrds away?

Is 10lb line all the way to a hair rig ok?Weight on loose swivel to roll up and down the line.

Any other basic needs?

Cheers

Some anglers still prefer single sticks as opposed to buzzer bars and pods.Really depends on the type of swim and ground.

Best method of baiting really depends on what bait you will be using,

As for rigs there are loads shown and explained on the net.Best to start simple but safe though.

Get/make yourself an unhooking mat

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Hi Simon, you do not need a fancy rod pod. They actually have positives and negatives as implied by Budgie. If the ground is rock hard a pod is great. However, if your baits are all in different directions then the extra resistance caused by this ruins bite indication...

Again as budgie intimated, for feeding it depends on the context. What do you want to achieve? Spread of bait or a focussed spot? It is quite easy to do either... get some monthlies or head down to the library and have a look at the carp books...

Rig-wise, I would recommend you go for some pre-tied end rigs and 10lb straight through to this as a start...

Where are you fishing and what are your aims?

Good Luck.

as for the alarms u cant go wrong with the fox even the cheap ones are good a pod will be a use on wooden platforms and on concrete but sticks are more versiatile have a look at the nash ss ones they are as tough as old boots and have a screw point come with a tommy bar that lets you put em in even the most solid grond

I have a couple of the Nash SS screw tips, the screw snapped half way up on both the first time I used them.

I've had some Dinsmores Spiral points for years that have lasted great.

Eat right, stay fit, die anyway.
