ABU 6500 brake blocks

Find an old style Breakaway lead with rollers (blue 'ceramic' rollers are best).

Use a Junior hacksaw to cut them into 1 or 2mm sizes .... use sparingly!!!

Cut them at least in half or they'll jam.

They must slide freely.

It's quite OK in reel brakes to use 1 block only.

The stepped arms are for captive blocks to stop them falling out in use or when putting the spool back in place.

You can still use cylinder blocks as long as they are big enough to remain captive against the brake rim during casting and you don't let them come loose when fitting the spool in place!!

Thanks for that, it makes sense...but looking at it, the hole in the brake block would fit the narrow section - but how do the blocks get over the wider bit at the end?

I think I know the blocks you need and, if so, the round blocks will never fit. The ones you want are slightly flattened and have a very narrow notch cut out so that they fit over the wider part of the arm. They are white in colour and, if I remember rightly, they sort of click into place so they can't fall off, but are still able to extend far enough to hit the brake 'drum'. Best thing is to take the reel into a good tackle shop so theycan sort the right ones out for you.

EDIT: There you go. Justy did a quick search and found them straight away.

Second picture down, right hand spool. They are the ones you need.
