Budget Barbel Rods

Anyone recommend a budget Barbel rod.

I'm looking for around1 1/4 to 1 3/4 T.C. As well as barbel use I will be using it for heavy float work on commercials and for big tench. It is not something I would use every session, probably only a dozen times a year really.

Although its mainly a barbel rod I'm after I would consider a twin tip rod.

Looking at 30 - 60 quid.

Any suggestions?

The Wychwood ones seem popular:

I have a couple on order, so can't comment on them yet. But quite a few people on here had good things to say about them. This was in the context of bream/tench fishing, but still applicable :)

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Wychwood are very good value, still have one now and use it now and again. I find them a little too stiff for my liking.

You could look at the Korum twin tip, although that maybe a little over your budget.

The Shimano is also good but again maybe a little over you budget.

If you want to treat yourself then get an i-power £200+, might put you off though.

If you are not too bothered about the label take a look at Used Tackle's Twin Tip barbel rod, at less than £30 you get two rods effectively in that there is a handle section plus a quiver section with three (I think, mine are in Derbyshire so I can't check!) tips plus a substantial normal top section which looks to be about the TC you are looking for. Last year I rang up about a 10 foot quiver rod that was in the AT as a special offer at £10, he had sold out but offered me the barbel rod for £15 so I took that. At his Boxing Day sale he was offering them for £20 so I bought another. Cracking rod for the money, not the lightest or slimmest blank but it does what it says on the tin. I have used them on the River Derwent at Belper (Chub 4lbs, Trout 3lbs and a small barbel plus roach, gudgeon etc.) and at Butterley Reservoir at Ripley (catching Tench, Bream and silvers) and cannot fault them, even the finish is good for a cheapo.

Shimano do a Hyperloop Barbel rod for around £60.00.

I picked up a 1.5lb TC new on ebay for £40 and use it for Bream, Tench & small Carp.
