What does the 'audience' actually do at these things?

 

My neighbour, who posts on here and showed me who you were on Sky, is well into Most Haunted.

 

I can't get Sky, so I suppose the real live thing would do

the audience sit in a studio looking scared whenever the camera points at them, that's about it!
