What choice of heavy mono for tope traces?

Worms

What do you think is the best mono leader material? I'm looking for an abrasion resistant, low memory line of around 200-250lb bs.

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Go for hard nylon monos (as suggested Veals' stuff) ...

but don't sheite 'em up with double crimps.

A hair dryer and a simple blood knot + a melted 'blob' ....

'after John Rawle', I think -

Ooops, should have crimped the barb!

:D If fishing primarily for tope I always use a short wire biting trace attached to a 50lb mono rubbing leader as I've had 250lb mono bitten through on the odd occasion, it also helps in case a shark picks up your bait by mistake. :D

Thanks all, Veals it is then!

Norm, I'd considered a short wire biting trace but the skipper that we'll be using (who can find tope when others can't) won't allow wire traces on his tope trips......and woe betide you if you turn up with a barbed hook HA :D

:D I'm all in favour of barbless hooks but I can't see the problem with a wire biting trace, especially if it means you don't leave a hook in the fish because it's bitten through the line. :D

I can't say I disagree with you there Norm.............the skipper does find lots of big fish though so I'll stick with his requirements for now :D

:D I can't argue with that logic either. I've only had a couple bite me off so it's not a problem, if the skipper consistently finds big fish he's worth keeping in with. :D

I've just created a tope trace out of 250lb mono, a Mustad 6/0 barbless tope and ray hook and a Mustad 200lb ball bearing swivel. The hook is tied with a snell knot and the swivel with a thumb knot.

What is the best way of straightening the mono?

I've stretched the trace out overnight and it is a lot better, is there a way of giving it Alzheimers? I have heard mention of using a hairdryer to make the mono easier to knot. Would this work in relieving the mono of its memory?

Ahhhheeeeemmmmm, :D all i use Worms with 250 mono is crimps. Dead easy to make the traces up on a rocking boat, with no kinking and as i like to stuff lots of bait up and over the hook, no bulky knot to pass over.

Sorry H A works for me. :D

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..
