Which one piece suit?

Kappa

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of getting a one piece suit to keep out the worst of the winter weather. So ideally it would be:

Waterproof

Breatheable

Warm (preferably with removable thermal inner)

Hard wearing (reinforced knees etc)

Any recommendations?

If you also consider the two piece option, I would avoid the Ron Thompson one - I was tempted by it, and it seemed a great bargain at the time, but it really isn't wearing very well.

Yes they are restrictive, but I love mine and wouldn't be without it now. Because it's 1-piece and all the zips have velcro flaps it's 100% waterproof and windproof, and breathable. It's like wearing a green waterproof duvet - lovely! I was sitting out in icy rain yesterday and was dry and warm as toast.

A friend did point out one of their major drawbacks at the weekend - be careful if you go fishing the morning after a decent curry, you don't want to be stuck in one with an attack of the screamers :D

As for recommendations, I'm not sure I can help. The one I got was half price from the local shop and isn't even branded (it's just got 'Specialist' written on it) but was a bargian at about £35 if I remember correctly.

BTW Rich, it's worth a look in the army surplus shop on Botley Rd for anything like this - a much better bet than a tackle shop...

Have not had a one piece for a long time but have had a Sundridge igloo two piece which has been very good. Waterproof, breathable and very warm with removable hood and liner in the jacket with bib and brace bottoms.Origanally bought it for winter carping but found it a bit too bulky and restrictive for roving. For most of my winter fishing I have for a long time been using military goretex which is much better in terms of being waterproof, lighter and allows you too use the multi layer approach which to me gives you more freedom of movement. The dutch army particularly do some excellent items including goretex lined jackets with a removeable fleece liner which gives the versatility of an all year round capability. The Dutch goretex trousers when available are better than the UK ones inasmuch that you have pockets, drawstring and a quick exit flap for when you want to go :D . It really depends on what you are comfortable in, as there are quite a few choices to be had. Below are a few of links which will give you some idea on the numerous army goretex items that are available. Also worth a luck on the net for army surplus. What you get for your money is is in my opinion much better both in terms of performance and quality than what you get from a tackle shop but yet again what suits one does not suit another.

That is the first thing I would check for when assessing any item of angling fashion garmentry ................
