ive just brought a big z umbrella and i want to get hold of a mossi net to drape over the front. i have found a few sites selling them but has anyone bought one and can recomend it. preferable in green or stainless (only joking). also has anyone used horse fly repellent, i read that its really good for keeping the mossies away.

thanks in advance, Arran

This is a serious answer (but you can use your imagination), Bloke I used to fish with really suffered badly from mossies so we made him a hat with a mossie proof veil which was tied around his neck, coupled with gloves he could fish in comfort.

The sight of him walking around with his "helmet" on was like something from a horror film .....but it did work,

Mozzie hats as described by the previous poster are on sale at a lot of US outdoor sites as they have a lot of biting insects in some areas during the summer. Try http://www.cabelas.com for some examples. You may find it cheaper to buy from the States online, or at the very least it will give you some ideas.

Den - you should have put it on the market in the US. We now have several lines of garb designed for turkey hunters (and others who hunt the early fall) that are the same. Hat /w net. Light netting in camo patterns designed to be worn over your regular clothing and completely proof against the little nasties. (note: just noticed the post from davidP and he is correct).

Biteless - I have found that if you take a heavy amount of vitamin B complex, you will be much less bothered with the things (it gives an odor to the sweat that people cannot detect but mossies dislike) and any bites you do get will bother you much less. I can sit in the front of my boat with my lady in the back and she gets eaten alive by them while I hardly notice they are around. She (so far) has declined to take the additional vitamin B. :D

Also, if for some reason you don't want to use one of the deet-containing products you might try the "Skin So Soft" that Avon makes. Works well.
