Abu 506 reel

Hi, can you help me with this simple task. My first reel many years ago when i was a boy was the Abu 506. Being a sentimentalist I have just bought one of ebay. What a beautiful reel, but for the life of me have forgot how the line is transfered from the spool ,, please help.

Mate, nice reels. Got a 501, 503, 505 and 2 x 506. Thread your line through the metal cover, tie the line round the spool, screw back the stainless steel cover, replace the metal cover. Make sure the line is coming off the spool in the same direction the reel is turning.

the pick up pins that pop out of the winding cup ,pick up the line that comes in through the gap between the outer wind shield (cowling) and the winding cup.the pins takes the line around winding it onto the oscillating spool.when you come too cast you press the big black button on the fron't of the spool ,this re-tracts the pins back inside the winding cup allowing the free flow of line ,a quick turn forwards of the handle then engages the pins once more ready too wind in

 

too load line onto the spool ,you must give the cowling a quarter turn (anti-clockwise) and lift off ,then you turn the handle until the face of the spool is exposed ,if theres old line on there just pull it off forwards ,if empty push your line through the centre of the cowling (front to back) then tie it onto the spool ,re-fit the cowling fit the reel too a rod (or just the handle section) click the big black button the retract the pins then thread your line through the rod rings ,then just wind on your line .if its fine line 50-70m should surfice to avoid bedding in.
