Hi All

Im fishing an charity match tomorrow and am hoping to get a few crucians and bream + roach , rudd etc.

I would be gratefull of any tips as i only fish the occasional match and would like to have a few fish to weigh in.

My baits are meat corn and maggotts.

Float fishing in the margins.

cheers Chris.

Much depends on what else in the water is likely to compromise your line because neither bream or crucians will put much strain and the lighter the set up the better during daylight. make sujre most of all that the float has a fine sensitive tip, is well shotted and will go under effortlessly. If you can use a fast sinking flourocarbon so the line behind your float does not get time to float and pull your rig around in the wind or drift you will have a distinct advantage The most successful crucian session I had 5 over 2lb and all fell to soft pellet fished an inch over depth and very close in to the edge of the marginal shelf. I also fed hard pellets each time the fizzing began to slow down. I felt at the time I would have done even better for the crucians had it not been for the very welcome big tench that forced me to up the line strength as 3 of these were over 5lb. Oddly the disturbance caused by the tench did not seem to affect the feeding and bites adversely.

To add a little keep low and out of sight and be very quiet. Cast so the tackle lands softly on the water.

Thanks for all your tips guys.

I finished in second place with 22lb 4oz the winner had 24lb 6oz.

Most of my fish were Bream up to 4lb (all on red maggott couldnt get a bite on anything else) didnt see a crucian and was very surprised i didnt get one or two.

had a great time but one or two more fish and i would have taken home a lovely trophy.

Never mind well happy with second and will try again next year.
