boating problems

Today while piking we had 9 rods taken out by a narrow (mindless tosser) boat. He came within 10 feet of our bank on a 90 yard piece of river, he was so close we didn't see him come round the tree line on our side.

It was so unbelievable i just had to tell the story. He was sorry tho which made it much better, my father in law lost around 300 yards of line off 3 reels (all need to be respooled), my old man lost 60 off each (respooled) and i was luck enough to not only get my baited rigs back but to also not loose any line.

Are there any rules on who should drive a boat a river, ages or anything because he said a kiddie was driving it?

I suppose we don't have a leg to stand on, do know where it is moored though (educated guess work anyway)

Just incase the captain of said ship happens to read this pm me for an address to send the check to, think 50 quid should cover it and i will share it out. 6 reels worth of line 5 snap tackles and 5 leads.

They were so close i could have thrown the maggots at them. The only thing we had to hand was an absolute tirade of verbal abuse. We even had a laugh about the amount we gave the bloke on the boat after he had gone.

We also came the to conclusion that he wasn't going to stop, he tried to power away and the combinded total of 9 rods of 15lb line around the boat made it so he had to stop and untangle it.

I don't know for sure but would guess the owness is on the angler to ensure their rods are not in the way and not on the boat owner to avoid the rods

the river is 90 yards wide and 18 foot deep. If he hadn't have been within spitting distance of us then there would have been no problem. And to reel in 3 rods fishing at 50 yards in around about 3.24 seconds would have been a little tricky.

If the river is that wide it does make you wonder what he was doing so close to the bank

Peabo if they let a kid helm the boat then they should have been supervising him properly so that is no excuse on there part, was it on a bend?? if so then boat navigation is keep right the opposite of the roads if you will and a boat heading downstream going round a left hand bend will sometimes stay wide on the right to allow for a boat [as yet unseen] coming up staying mid stream to avoid the shallow water on the inside of said bend .

If it was on a straight bit then the helm should have been supervised to ensure they gave unseen fishermen [yourselves in tree line] a wide berth ,get his boat name and report him to the navigation office of whatever river/canal/broad you were fishing as if he is the sort to deliberately wind up anglers then someone else may have reported him and a picture may be built up of his habits .

Console yourself that he will have to spend ages with his arm up to his shoulder in freezing water via the weed hatch removing your line from his prop  .

If you think you know where he is moored then go have a chat fella you don't get if you don't ask an all that ,For the most part Boaters and Anglers manage to get along but you always get a few on both sides to upset the applecart for eg i have lost count of the times on the canals where at a lock standing [the bit of bank just before a lock festooned with bollards and no fishing signs that some **** on a seatbox has set himself up fishing away and then moans like f$%^ when we slide in to drop off the mrs to operate the lock .

Sadly stupidity isn`t pastime specific and we always remember the d^&(s Steve.

We are not putting it back it is a lump now put that curry down and go and get the scales

have I told you abouit the cruise control on my Volvo ,,,,,,,bla bla bla Barder rod has it come yet?? and don`t even start me on Chris Lythe :bleh::icecream:

It was on wissy pools in norfolk. so its more of a massive expanse of water with a river going in and out. they came from my right, so by whats been said on here im guessing they should have been over the other side anyway (pass on the right)

I have been fishing here for a few years and the boating fraternity have always been exemplary, so im not having a general go at boatists. I even think (rightly or wrongly) that a boat going over the bait can sometimes stir the pike up and develop a take. They even going out of their way to give us plenty of room on occasions.

To be honest im more annoyed that at least two baited rigs were left out there, the last thing any angler wants to do is possibly harm our precious targets. With a bit of luck he will find the trebles when he is cleaning his prop

Anyway such is life. Did manage to catch 3 doubles up to 18lb 11oz (new pb) and a 9lber, so in reality im not that unhappy, just perplexed.
