Big Nick, floating pole hows it work, i'll try to explain, normally to catch fish up in the water and more often than not its a method used for catching carp on the carp puddles, the pole is elasticated as normal for carp 12s and above depending on size of carp, no float, just a length of line depends on the depth the fish are feeding at normally 8" to 3ft. the line would have a hook on one end and small loop at the other to go on the stonfo on the pole, if you need to change the depth you change the length of line,(hope your with it up to now) bait the hook with maggot or pellet useually, start assembling pole as normal when you get to about 10 or 11mtrs. you can lay the pole on the water and it will float (dont let go of it) and then keep adding sections till your fishing at the required distance (upto 20m with that new pole)you can do that because your not holding any weight (still with me) you then sit on the pole so it cant go anywhere and start catapulting bait at the end of the pole little and often to get the fish feeding up in the water the rig works like a bolt rig whereby the fish hooks itself and pulls the pole to one side or the other or pulls the tip section under water, no need to strike just start unshiping keeping the pole laid on the water let the elastic do its job until you get to your top 3 then lift the pole up and net the fish, easy, (well a lot easier than trying to explain) its a proven match winning method but gets a bit boring not a lot of skill needed, you can do it with your 14m no problem, a word of warning you,ll have heard people going swimming to retrieve a pole! need i say more! i hope all that made sense.

I'll be very interested in feedback too, Jangar. My guess is that the reason they retail at 'just' £499 is because the makers have not had to worry about rigidity and weight because they are designed to float on the water. If you tried to lift one at its full 20 metres (or less) I expect you would put quite a bend in it and it would be very heavy as well. This is a specialist tool really and if you normally fish up to 14.5 metres there will probably be better kit out there for less than £499. I remember reading that some carp pools have banned the the 'floating pole' method as well so it might be worth considering this before buying one. Having said all this, I haven't seen or tried one yet so perhaps I should keep my mouth shut and my mind open until I hear the feedback! :)
