my grandad gave me an old mitchell 306 or 300 reel not quite sure which as its in the shed and cant be botherd to go find out, but it is old with 3 spare spools, just wondered if it is worth any thing as i have heard a lot of hype bout old mitchell reels.

its still in good working order, i even used it as last resort when my reel packed in mid session.

So it's not hype then, it's true.

I still use a Mitchel 300 and a 410, as do thousands of other anglers who are not afflicted with tackletartitis.

Ben88, I doubt it is a 306, that was a saltwater reel. There is a whole world of antique fishing tackle out there. The Mitchell 300 is collectable because it was the Rolls Royce of fixed spool reels once. However, for it to be worth anything it needs to look like this beauty! This is my own (never been used) 300, I have other (even older) ones for fishing with. When I wer a lad we used to dream of Mitchell 300’s and it is a sad sign of the times when young uns have to use them “as a last resort”. Posted Image

i only used it as a last resort as i didnot know what it was at the time and i only had two reels with me, the one that i was using was a small closed face abu gacia reel which snapped the line while i was using it, it is now unuseable and i can not find another one anywhere as it was my favorite reel.

i will post details of the abu reel as soon as i can but at the moment it is at my grandads as he was having ago at trying to fix it.

hmmmm really
