None in Staffordshire, yet, but probably heaidng your way, Bruno. One currently in the Nene valley near Thrapston, Northants.

If one does arrive in Staffordshire, it's unlikely that Nige Williams will be the first to spot it. But he's sure be the second.

As Den said they're pretty common now in East Kent. They used to be a rarity, but I believe they've started colonising the UK from Holland.

 

We've had 4 at Wingham the last few years and it's unusual not to see them in winter, However, they're only occasional visitors in summer.

 

They're similar to a heron, but smaller and almost all white.

 

One thing I have found is that they're much easier to approach than herons. In fact, you can get pretty close before they take flight.

Egrets have cleaned out most of the fish in garden ponds in Weymouth that are not netted, by all accounts.

I found a few white feathers around my ponds as if a fox had had one.

I went back on Saturday. No sign of the egret but there was a black swann.

Reminded me of Bruno's comment about forign introductions "feathers good, fur good fins bad".

The Egrets on that show were getting it tight....yum!
