This weekend I intend to fish a small 5 acre day ticket water:

http://www.klicklicphotography.co.uk/photo_1975294.html

As you can see, very pretty but also very heavily weeded with lots of water lily.

The loch contains Roach and Rudd to 2lb, Perch to 3lb+ and carp up to 20lb. There are also Tench to 7lb and Pike to 25lb +

Swims are small gaps in the lilies.

I would like to use the 8m pole with a size 14 elastic

I also have a light 14' match/float rod and a heavy 13' feeder rod.

I will not be specifically fishing for the larger carp but don't mind if one comes along.

Any advice on tactics, equipment, bait or whatever will be appreciated.

Bait available will be bread, sweetcorn, meat, worm (dendrobena) and maggot

I recognise that place :) I've fished Dunmore a couple of times myself, it's a really nice place to fish. The gaps in the weeds really are small and the lillies are pretty extensive with some meaty looking root systems.

I fished worm and corn on a waggler rig. To be honest i wasn't really targeting the carp, more the perch on worm, but i had great fun days each time i fished with bags and bags of perch to about a pound. I never fancied the idea of hooking into a decent carp with little room to manouver them out of the weeds. I would have liked to hook a tench or two though, but on my visits they managed to elude me :)

In my limited experience, I'd either target the carp, or try to avoid them. Fishing with enough finesse to encourage bites from the smaller species will result in getting smashed off by the hard fighting carp should you be unlucky enough to hook one. My advice, based on the waters I have fished so far this year, is to fish and feed delicately to avoid the carp. Try to probe local knowledge to see where the carp hang out. Alternatively, feed generously for the carp, for which you'll need to step-up your gear, probably to at least 8lb line straight through to a strong hook like a Kamasan Animal.

When you say "very heavily weeded", are you referring to the lilies, or is there a lot of weed growing on the lake bed?

Soft plastic lures (rubber worms) with minimum weight to maybe 1/16oz (2 gm). Set it on top of a pad and slowly drag it off the side. When it drops into the water, quit moving it and watch closely for the line to twitch during the fall. If nothing by the time it reaches bottom, bring it in and try again.

When you see the twitch, set the hook and hang on.

Pike: 8 to 12 inch worm rigged with a light wire 3/0 or 4/0 hook

Perch: 4 to 6 inch worm rigged with a light wire #1 to 2/0 hook

Others: 3 to 4 inch worm rigged with #4 or #3 hook (which will be light wire)
