Trotting with pellets

Im not much of a river fishermen but i can imagine the fish wont be interested because they're not used to them, if its a fairly heavily fished river the fish may have a taste for them if fishermen use them for carp and barbel. The rivers near me are small and not fished a great deal, i wouldnt use pellets on them, i would go for a more natural bait like corn, bread, worms or maybe meat.

I might be wrong but i always though pellets, along with boilies were baits that fish had to be 'introduced' to and get a taste for before they become effective, thats why they work on commercials because the fish are brought up on them and so many are put in the water as freebies they become used to them.

Might be worth a try though, if there are barbel or carp in the river they might have a go, and maybe chub or bream but i suppose it all depends on what sort of river you are fishing :)

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

Dave, I've used them on rivers that hardly ever see another angler, and the fish are onto them immediately. They are designed to be as palatable as possible to the fish, so there is no need for them to learn that they are food because they smell like food.

I've done well with float fished expanders in summer on the Stour and Avon for big chub plus odd dace and sizeable roach. Both venues the fish were used to seeing pellets. Even did an article on it in Coarse Fisherman.
