That scuppers my plans for tomorrow somewhat! Thanks Chris may have to go to the canal and try the lad on running water again. Going to pull my finger out and sign up to the forum now!

Which bit of canal? Most of the K&A is still frozen solid?

All my club lakes have a lid on them, although many rivers round essex are clear of ice they are full of snow melt and salt and noone is getting any bites. i have heard that my local commercial is fishable so will hopefully get some fishing in tommrow fingers crossed.

Going to look at the local ressie tomorrow (well later today if all things go to plan) and might take a rod just in case.

There's a sluice that constantly flows into one of the big roach ressies, which didn't produce much this year but that was laziness on my at for not feeding it.

Methinks I'll also try for the big perch too. Same tactics, same bit of water.

If not, I'll just have a gander and have a think.

And the plans are scuppered further! Looks like taking him fishing isnt gonna happen for a few weeks yet then!

Just back from getting some bait - and having a bit of a recce. Canal is ice free at Thatcham station (always a bit of flow there which helps) lakes at Widmead still VERY solid. Saw a cracking looking swim which screamed perch - and which will be revisited tomorrow at first light armed with float rod and a tub of lobs....

We had a wonder round the lakes some of it was still 2-3 inches thick! Knotts looks to be the first with a chance of clearing! Ended up at colthrop but due to convincing myself we would be able to find an ice free corner only had my pod and alarms for me and an avon with a waggler for him so ended up fishing maggot feeders on alarms (not how i was planning teaching him to fish AT ALL!) needless to say we blanked..... But every cloud and all that he's now asking every five minutes when we can go fishing properly (i explained that wasnt proper fishing lol)
