think long spool reels are modern designs?

think 2 speed oscillation is a modern design?

think rollers in the bail arm are modern

nah just my fav intrepid ,mr morritt should be knighted.

Chesters, DO NOT BUY THIS REEL, it will not work.

 

The mechanism can only oscillate(love these big words) about .5" so all the line will be at one end (laff, guffaw, giggle)

was it ever designed to retrieve the line? or as a tournament reel just to cast? with a single layer of line ? your the expert poledark :)

Chesters, I reckon that someone spent hours making that spool and fitting it. Probably only when he/she came to alter the pickup mechanism did the penny drop. Probably thought that all they had to do was make the pickup stick out a bit further.

 

Sorry mate, wasn't laughing at you, I have also made some similar mistakes, fortunately sorted out on paper first.

 

I once had a bloke asked me to make and fit a narrow spool for his ABU 7000. He got real peeved when I explained that I would also have to shorten the cross bars and make a new reel seat. I did do the job though, wonder where that reel is now??

what i meant was if it was only designed to cast in a competition,the short pickup could be used to rewind (although the line would be all in 1 lump) for the next cast a fresh spool could be put on so the retrieve would be just to recover the line the casting would use a pre loaded spool,eerr sort of :)

it looks like the full bail has been removed but the origanal hole fitted with a pin ,maybe a short tube was fitted at sometime to the pin to act as an old fashioned half bail (it looks by the design to fold completly out of the way) just to retrieve ,or i could be making it all up due to the rubbish quality of the picture :D

as you can see drawing and reel design were low on my list of esential school lessons :)
