My worst fear ..... Realised!

Hi all, I thought I would tell you about my most terrifying moment since I started fishing 20 odd years ago. I am a Carp angler and subsequently spend a lot of nights on the bank, with this comes your wildlife. I am obviously pleased as punch when I see the deer drinking only yards away, I am chuffed as I watch the Bats swooping around my bivvy, amazed as I watch foxes playing in the wood behind. But what I cant cope with is  RATS!!!! I hate them, I am absoloutley petrified of them! They scare me so much. I dont know why, I am a farmers son so I should be used to them, but I just cant cope with them uggghh!! Anyway this evil little creature has made me seriously consider quitting the night fishing scene! I am not kidding! Last night as I settled down for a nice cosy night in the bivvy I was alerted by something, I didnt know what but there was something!I grabbed my torch and was Horrified to see a  RAT!! squeezing it's way into my bivvy through a gap in the door no bigger than 2 inches! All I could see was the head and 2 legs as it was struggling to push into my bivvy! I absoloutley  FREAKED! I launched my torch at the Rat and as I did the bulb flicked off leaving me in darkness, I didnt know whether the rat had gone or had come in the bivvy, I was terrified. I sat motionless, tears in my eyes (I am not kidding). After about 20 mins I plucked the courage to move and luckilly there was no sign of the evil thing. Anyway just the thought of a rat doing that was enough to cut my 5 day session short by 3 days. I cant believe it would come in my bivvy, next time I will do my zip up properley (If I get the bottle to go during the night again) Has this ever happened to any of you guys? God .....  I hate Rats!    :(

You have my every sympathy, I loathe the B@stard things. When I was a kid they would come out of the crop fields after havest (about now) and get into the walls and roof of our old house. Remember my grandad cornering one in an outhouse and coming out with it screeching and impaled on two tines of a garden fork, must have been nearly 2 foot long from head to tip of tail, YUK!

Buy yourself a .22 air pistol and practice on a few beer cans. Keep it loaded under your bedchair, I think you'll find they don't scurry much after being drilled with one of these little babies. Don't let the little b@stards stop or spoil your fishing.

One good reason to do something is better than a thousand bad excuses not to.

Sorry to be a "Spoilsport" but I fear you will find that Firearms are not allowed to be used on the water/land in question unless you have the express permission of the land owner. Once you have this be aware that you should not be allowing the projectiles to traverse the boundaries of the land. Other than that BLAST AWAY!!! With flat head pellets of course (transmit more force at short ranges and very stable flight too!!)And if you are anywhere near to Halifax let me know and I'll come and help!!

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

You would miss at that range any way.

Oh and a air pistol is not a fire arm unless the foot/lbs is over 6.

And if the barrel is over 12inches then it's an air rifle and that becomes a fire arm when the ft/lbs is over 12.

The best thing to get rats is a spade used either way. Horizontal for the squishing effect and verticle for the clean cut method.
