  1. Woulda moderator like to contact me by e-mail a.s.a.p. on george.mathieson@lineone.net
  2. NurseJudy The prospect of having a wife who not only arranges a fishing break for me, but who also posesses a nurses uniform is too much. Will you marry me? Utopia or what?
  3. Using a kite in strong wind to deposit PVA bags seems enirely the sort of thing bivvie boys will do... equally barmy as remote controlled bait boats. Looking at the forecast for Sunday, makes me think its a good day to take my lads to commercial puddles. The sight of bivvies being blown across water and bedchairs being turned upside down (preferably with bivvie boys still on them)sounds too good to miss.
  4. I dinna like the insinuation that Yorkshire sassanachs are tight wi their dosh. Its us Scots that are the experts on that. Yorkshire folk are no better thann the rest of ye sassenachs and wee southern softies. Discuss!!!
  5. Or at least it would have done it I knew how to work this blo..y machine!!!
  6. All this talk about avatars made me think I ought to get one. This one reminds me of my best mate!!!!
  7. I say Chesters, you have fallen in my estimation.... digging holes! I hope you get yourunder gardener to do that. I find that kitchen staff get a bit squeamish about worms, but here what you say about the 3rd cook being cheaper. I find my undergardener is quite productive, especially when one fires some shot around him from the south tower of my pad. Quite good sport really Chesters. Keep the domestics on their toes and in their place is what I say!!!
  8. Fished Hamstall Ridware in Staffs last week. Cold, grey, mirky, but dry day... just before the deluge. Fished a mixed pool, pool 3 I think, known for its head of Bream and Tench. Had a good catch of Skimmers, Roach, 1 lovely Rudd, and good size perch. However, the margins interested me, and whilst fishing a feature of lillies some 20 ft out, constantly kept feeding a margin swim where Tench bubbles were constant. Everyso often, changed tactic and fished the margin swim I had been feeding. Fished REd maggot, caster, sweetcorn, luncheon meat, cocktails. everything, on a waggler between 2 and 12 inches overdepth. Bubbles all around the float but not one bite. Do bubbles simply indicate Tench are present, or that Tench are feeding? By the way... Hamstall Ridware is a cracking venue... not just a whole in the ground, but a beautifully developed fishery, with 4 lakes and 700 m of River Blithe, which despite no rain for weeks, still yielded some lovely Chub. Spent an hour or so missing bite after bite because I watching a pair of Kingfishers. If you want a commercial fishery, with good heads of fish, but looks and feels very natural, then give it a go. Guy I went with fishes Makins regularly, and was very very impressed with Hamstall
  9. I Don't belieeeevvve it. All these prizes for a picture of me. I just don't belieeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvvvve it!
  10. These antis don't like it up 'em Capt. Mainwareing, they don't like it up 'em!
  11. Ideally, because I don't go angling enough to justify many reels, I need 1 quality reel that will do as much as possible.... float, leger, spinning, rangeing from small silver fish on light float rod, through to larger fish on JW Avon / Quiver rod (1.25 T/C)
  12. Isn't this along the lines of the US holding an internal US Baseball competition and calling it The World Series?
  13. I posted a topic some days ago about "Which One Reel" would you have if you wanted 1 to cover as many options as possible. Shimano Stradic X 3000 GTM is a reel I am looking at on e-bay. Any thoughts.
  14. I understand that DragonBat is not too fussed about how pussy appears... wounded / angry / whatever
  15. Hand grenade in the water would appear more subtle and probably just as effective
  16. What's wrong with the split washer (10 p )on the line and empty tin beneath (free) to make it rattle when the washer drops? Note my signature!!!!
  17. If you guys could only own one reel, and therefore has to be as versatile as possible, which one would it be. I ask because I don't go fishing often enough to justify half a dozen or so reels. Therefore, one which has many uses , with different types of spools (deep and shallow) and very wide range of line strengths, and possibly can be used for some lure work. Not asking for much am I? Any ideas. I have 2 rods which it needs to be used with, 15' light float rod, and a JW Avon / Quiver. Preferably under £80
  18. I support the movement of fish. The analagy is my wife. If she were to hit say 15Stone, I'd want her removed from my house to another, so that there would be room for a lithe 8 stoner to move in.
  19. That was fine in Paris since I think 4/5ths of the competitors blanked . Didn't an Eel win it for England? More seriously though, the fault there lies with the organisiers of the W/C's not the anglers.
  20. Why are you giving Lionel all this stick. I saw Lionel Blair play Widow Twanky in panto last year, and thought he was very good.
  21. Adz, I can now tell when Tony B Liar is lying.... You can see his lips moving!!!
  22. Me thinks that all the mud that is being slung on this site about Angling Politics and CA politics is landing in the Thames. Or perhaps its all the bull sh.. that comes from the politicians in London?
  23. I live in a city. I like going to the countryside (whats left of it). I enjoy rock climbing, mountaineering, which almost invariably involves walking across farm land to get there. I enjoy river fishing, which also requires the crossing of meadows... owned by farmers. These guys, on the whole, get a pretty raw deal. They are castigated if they up root hedges to make farming easier (excepting the principal of soil erosion)... they are the unpaid custodians of the countryside. They have to tolerate the pretty poor specimens who break fences, leave litter which damage their cattle, cut wire if the style for a footpath is not quite in the right place. The CA is about these people as well as the hunting fraternity. It is the media and antis who have said CA = Fox Hunting. B.ll.cks. There are many aspects of the Countryside which are pertinent issues. It just appears that the govt. could not care a t.ss about rural issues coz most rural constituences are in Tory areas. I shall tell you just how desparate some farmers are getting.... forget taking their own lives with shotguns. It is getting so desparate that some have resorted to converting their land into fisheries, to get paid a pittance of £5 per peg by anglers (many of whom are ignorant gits). The last people I would want on my land are us lot. Good on the CA for organising yesterday. 400,000 people. From what I see on this site, I doubt 400 people would bother to march if our way of life was under threat...... we couldn't organise it!!! Discuss . (Lights blue touch paper and retreats to a very safe distance)
  24. What an abosultely fantastic article. And for those of you who think Angling is being hijacked by the CA ...... tough. You are welcome to your views, and me to mine. Lets stay on planet earth not Planet Paranoia.... The author is not an anti angling person who wants to associate angling with Hunting to get both banned.
  25. Are you not a tad concerned about using transport in which any old Tom, Dick or Harry may have been conveyed? It must be frightfully inconvenient not having your own motor car. It is dashed useful having Humphreys to drive me home in the Bentley.
