I have 4 Shimano reels and 4 Spro reels that cost half the price of the equivalent Shimano.

Which would I buy again? the Spro every time, in fact the Simanos will be sold soon and replaced with Spro ;)

As for spare parts, I don't know as I have never needed any

This has to be worth a look

Certainly looks like a good quality reel mate. Might give them a try myself :)

Assuming it's for a match/float rod, I'd go with the best 2000 or 2500 size front drag reel you can afford.

You can go smaller to cut weight but light line can tend to sick a bit on narrow spools.

If it's for a feeder or carp type rod for bottom fishing then I'd go with a 4000 size reel and would seriously consider a baitrunner (AKA baitfeeder, freeliner etc) type reel as this is a bit more flexible and despite the extra weight, it's going to spend a lot of time in a rod rest of some sort.

I never did understand the British love of rear drag reels 'cause they're heavier than front drag, the drag system isn't usually as smooth and it's just another place for grit and corrosion to trash the reel.

For my 2x ESP Carp rods I run Shimano Aero GT 6000 Baitrunners. £80 each at the time

On my Match/Ledger rods I use Okuma. I have 2x, The Okuma Razor (£30) and Okuma Inspira 30b (£35).

I use the Inspira most of the time, its light weight, strong, rear drag, easy use. I use the Razor on my ledger or feeder rods due to its bigger spool, holding more line for bigger fish.

Ive seen both okuma reels on ebay from £5 seccond hand and the baitrunners still hold their prices, around £50each on fleebay.

One of the problems with many of the lesser known brands is that if they go wrong spare parts are hard to obtain. So there's something to be said for sticking to the big names, although not all of even these are good for spares. Alternatively you can buy old reels on eBay and use them as spares.

thanks 4 advice x
