Just a question we were talking about in the pub tonight, are there any multi species groups still going? Nowadays there seems to be any amount of single species groups, just wondered if there were any left.

As I understand it the Three Counties Specimen Group is still alive and kicking.

The Specialist Anglers' Alliance was formed from the National Association of Specialist Anglers (NASA), when it merged with SACG. NASA was great, as it appealed to all-rounders such as yourself Graham.

Have a look at our website, we're not just about politics. We're going to do more on the actual "Angling" side of things soon, so you may be interested then, if not now.

Eager volunteers accepted, gratefully!

I don't think that anyone in a single species group, wholly fishes for 1 particular type of fish.

Pike, Zander, Perch, Eel anglers etc. use lives and deads usually caught by themselves. I am pretty sure they learned how to do that by specifically targetting these "prey" species from time to time.

Carpers can usually tell you all the best Bream methods. Chubbers may know all the best Barbel lies and baits. Trouters can tell you where to pick up the odd Grayling. I think that tells you that noone really spends all thier time specifically on one fish type.

Although I am a member of a single species group, I myself, spend as much time targetting other fish as I do targetting Pike. It's just a case that I prefer to see a Pike by the end of the day than anything else. I know that the other members all have a 2nd/3rd choice of fish to aim for since 1 fishing style can prove monotonous.

Perhaps multi-species groups are far too generalised and specific information/company can be limited. By joining a single species group, you can learn far more about the fish of your choice and most probably make more friends. There are probably more single species groups these days than all the mixed clubs that preceeded them.

I don't see a problem. All clubs are aiming for similar recognition and they all know thier own agendas better than a multi-species group could. In general, things are probably looking up for most species because more has been done from an eduction/consevation point of view than there was in the last decade.
