Not trying to teach old dogs new tricks and all the Carp boys will be familiar with the practice. But if you are going down the route of fishing plastic, pellets, boilies etc at night then it is worth tying some extra rigs during day light and putting your "night baits" on them. I leave mine in glug to soak up some extra attraction. It can make changing baits at night a lot more easy, simple clip a new complete rig on when you want to change or just one knot to tie and your fishing again. Beats trying to find that baiting needle in the dark :D

I'm thinking of baiting a couple of areas at range and one in the margins. I only usually fish two rods at a time (and thus have only one rod licence), but am giving consideration to buying a second short term licence so that I would have the option of fishing a third rod.

 

I'm thinking of fishing at range with the bolt rig / fake maggots and PVA tactic that I've found so effective for tench since Anderoo lured me over to the Dark Side. I'm thinking worm in the margins is a possibility for perch, maybe float fished. I'm also thinking about fruity boilies and fake corn.

 

All very general, though, you can't really decide what to do until you get there. The thing to do is to listen to the excellent advice you get from the bailiffs and members when you are shown your swim and then formulate your plan based on that. You will probably be told which underwater features to fish to - find them with marker float or plummet as appropriate and then decide how best to fish and feed them. I think getting some feed on the bottom in the afternoon using spod or catapult and then topping up with feeder/loose feed/PVA seems to be a popular and effective tactic.

I would certainly recommend getting a temporary extra licence so you can fish 3 rods Steve, as you are used to this type of fishing it will be an advantage.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I might go for a temporary license too actually... Make the most of the occasion.

 

What happens if you get a run on another rod while playing a fish? Not saying I will, but with ANOTHER rod, it effectively doubles the chances of being screwed. Do you just call for help and let it run? Or just let it run and deal with it when you can? Don't want to possibly annoy people and all that?

Can you tell I've never done this type of thing before?

No need for it but I do like to camo up, put on a kevlar helmet with a soft packet of fags in the webbing for that "Hollywood Nam Experience" while waiting for the LSD Bream to turn up.
