I tried installing Red hat 64bit but it floundered ("kernal panic-not syncing :pci -dma high address but no IOMMU") ,i get the impression its confused by my pc but the MOBO is 32 or 64bit capable (M2n32-sli deluxe) and its an AMD athlon 64 x2(which i presume is 64bit?).

http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2...reless_Edition/

any hints?

thought i might try a dual boot system enjoying the benefits of 64bit until i can afford a windows version in 64bit.

OK by modern standards the board is a dinosaur but its stable and does at the moment all i need

i presume i cant install to a usb external drive (the 32 bit loader couldn't find a "suitable" drive) so i am clearing an internal sata drive which i hope it appreciates

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

Its far easier to curse the darkness than light one candle

Have you got the latest and greatest BIOS installed chesters?

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
