Unlucky Steve - I knew how you feel... hopefully the river will stay in shape for the rest of the season now.

Well my jumbo box of starlights has arrived so going to mix up some brand XXX smelly paste and have a go after dark 1 night next week and the following weekend if succesfull ,got a new chair with the feeder arm thingy and other bits to try out ,Time to dig out the Peacock hand warmers, Thermals,Headtorch more Thermals and give it a go .

Have a spot in mind that i think will hold Chub so hopefully most of the weed will get washed away in this first flash off and be perfic later in the week Steve

I doubt you'll need the thermals or the handwarmers! Good luck though, I hope you catch a few :)

How come, Tony?

I just want to spend more time Trout and sea fishing that's all I may do some predator fishing but I want to spend a year doing something different to the past twenty seasons.

The Severn is getting a bit of a flush though as well. There's more than 3m of floodwater on at the moment which will pretty much limit angling to a bit of deadbaiting in the tributaries.

Actually, the flood has reminded me that I need to goo down to a local swim with a saw and cut a fallen tree free from it's roots. The next flood should then flush it out ready for next summer.

I had a look at the Thames today, taking a sneaky fly rod with me, but it's still very high and coloured. So I headed to my club's carp puddle to see if I could catch some perch on the fly. First fish I hooked was a bloody carp, which came off. I briefly hooked two other fish, neither of which felt like perch, before catching this little beastie:

Nice one Steve! I popped down to the Thames to chuck a few lures around and as you say, it is still very coloured. I didn't catch anything but didn't really expect to! I'll be chubbing tomorrow and have made a batch of cheesepaste, which might stand a chance of being found in muddy water...

Still undecided about tomorrow - the Thames looks a bit ugly. The barbel are catchable in high coloured water, but I don't enjoy fishing in those conditions much. Have half a mind to have another crack at fly fishing the carp puddle!

:)

Had another one, smaller, and got bitten off by a jack. I do seem to be encountering nearly as many pike as perch, maybe I need to find somewhere else to fish - I think wire would put the perch off on these little flies.

Still moving today. I've not seen such a glorious sight since March. :D Time to get chubbing.

The brown colour is now just starting to drop out and there was the first hint of 'winter green' this morning as I came over the river. If the river keeps its flow, it ought to be bang on for chub at the weekend, albeit 10 degrees too warm... perhaps perch would be a more sensible choice...
