Why though?

Looked like we posted at the same time, I was also wondering why.

Due to the angle it keeps the bait between 6" and 2' (or more) off the deck at the ranges I fish 20' to 50' in 8-10' of water usually. I've found I get a more positive indication with a running rig, no possibility of a dropback and the short 'hooklength' means they don't get too far before I know about it.

It works for me anyway. Probably far better ways to do it but I can't be arsed with 'critical balancing' or 'popping up'. I'd rather 'dangle'

Yup looking forward to it here as well, new toys to play with....

Me too, I have had the fever very badly for about two or three weeks now. The thing is I'm happy with my own swingers/bobbins, I have identified the tackle I need to get and I have already revised my rigs a little to make them much much simpler for the year ahead. The only other things I need to do is modify a spod and the electronics of my swinger/bobbins to accommodate the different 'power out voltage' of the new alarms I'll be getting myself, but I cant start until I actually have them and it ought to be a very simple job. Now I'm still as hyped as ever but I don't have a 'project' to occupy my brain!

Any suggestions? Help I need a project with a difficult to solve problem!

I have the echo sounder with a transducer that's claimed to work at 70m+, no delivery mechanism though so if you're into modifying Spods...

I reckon a Spomb will do it but would have to get my hands on one to make sure.

Ah I see so the same/similar presentation to what I get with a CD.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I think I would load it in a spod! The trick will be getting the aerial high enough off the water!

Are you planning to mod the transducer or receiver?

Apparently it will work at 70m in normal conditions and upto 100 if it's flat calm out the box, it's not a Smartcast.

It only cost me £45 so if it's not upto much it's not that big an issue but I thought it was worth a try.

Those 'you know where' perch ought to do the trick!

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I usually use an 8' (yes, feet) running link to a 2oz leger with an 18" distance from leger stop to hook.

I can see why Budgie and possibly others were confused. What Renrag described is what strictly speaking should be called a running paternoster but it often called something different (such as a link leger) these days.

A parernoster has a lead link longer than the hook link. This means that even a non-buoyant bait can (but won't always) be fished off the bottom.

With a link leger it's the other way round.
