there was something very similar based on the chod rig in advanced carp fishing a few months back. Could see the point of the chod version as a hell of a lot of fish get lost on choddies because of the short rig.

I think it is rather clever and used on the right water for cute fish it may have a place. A simple run rig or shocker rig may achieve the same result. I don't go in for knocking Carp anglers for the sake of it, they come up with some pretty smart stuff.

 

The problem is when these sort of rigs become just a standard bit of kit and used when there is no need to. I look forward to reading plenty of posts in the future about getting on the Boa by newbies who read it in some rag and thinks its the answer to bagging more lumps.

 

I like the rig but have no plans to use it as for my fishing I can not see it achieving better results then my own standard rigs. But used on the right water it could have its uses.

I do not knock Carpers but how many rigs do you want. Every week someone in the Carp celebrity world comes up with some famous rig of their own. They treat the fish as Einstein and think that it works that rig out and this rig and so they bring out a rig to compensate this very clever carp. I bet now in a month some celebrity to get paid for going into a carp rig will follow the Boa rig up with The 'Zebedee' rig where it bounces around in its mouth until hooked in the correct place??

 

It's not Carp anglers. If they want a rig they have made up and try then great but to stick it in a carp mag and get all the young one's buying it and then they screw the whole rig up in some way...Result dead carp.

A Zig rig seems good, you can catch a lot of carp at different depths and is a pop up and that will catch any fish and the youngest carper can understand the simple rig!

Most rigs are invented to overcome a problem and if a celeb angler wants to put that information out there and make some money at the same time then good luck to them. If some anglers blindly follow them or waste there money copying them without understanding why they are using a rig then that's there problem.

 

The "celeb angler" can not be held responsible for all the sheep in the world. Also should Carp mags not cover new stuff just because the lemmings may follow it?

 

There is a lot to be said for keep it simple, but there is no need to dumb down everything and not be able to get "rig techy" in case newbies copy it and think its the best approach.

If the sheep do copy them then that is their problem i agree but its not their problem is it it's the fish's problem because in the end because some not very bright angler cocks the rig up they suffer but i guess any rig can do that but the more complicated they get the more chance it will happen. However i do agree that it is not an ideal world and you can't blame a guy wanting to up carpers catch rate and so therfor make money.

 

We can't hold either to account :)
