Second 40lb+ common in 2 days from Wingham

Wingham Carp Lake has produced another 40lb+ common, the second in 2 days!

 

This one went 40-02 and Bob doesn't think it's either of the ones he's caught before and so is probably a new 40, making 10 in all in the Carp Lake. I just need the photos to confirm this.

 

The captor was Bob MacGregor, who last year had 7 of the 9 known 40s, including the lake record of 49-08. Bob caught his latest 40 just after setting up this morning, and then added a 29-13 mirror shortly afterwards. The latter had a huge tail (which many of the carp born at Wingham have) and put up a tremendous scrap. This brings Bob's tally to to 61 carp since starting on the Carp Lake in April last year, of which 29 have been 30lbs+.

 

Another member pointed out that the 47-08 common caught yesterday is likely to be over 50lbs in the autumn, so with the 49-08 mirror still seemingly growing we could have both a 50lb common and a 50lb mirror in the Carp Lake by then!

Sounds like some incredible Carp are being caught. But Steve how is the proper fishing going, has any one had any big eels yet this season?

I've heard of almost no eels yet, but then they seldom get mentioned anyway unless someone is targeting them. The Forum Fish-In in 3 1/2 weeks will hopefully throw some up, especially on the Carp Lake.

 

Talking of eels I've invited the National Anguilla Club to a Fish-In this year. The likely date is the 2nd weekend in September but I'll confirm this when it's finalised.

This should give us some valuable fishery management data, plus the EA are going to be electric fishing the Back Lake for us this year.
