( Foe example a Train Driver in their local area. The pay is very good between £26,000 - £35,000 35 hour week 33 - 34 days leave per year)

I think you're a bit out of date!! I,m told that the drivers on the Weymouth-Waterloo run can expect to earn around £70,000 p.a.

Most have retired by the time they're my age though, as with most public masters (SORRY! Public Servants)e.g. Police, MOD staff etc. etc.

I probably wouldn't pass the medical!!

I always like to travel facing the rear of the train anyway!!!

Trains indirectly have a big bearing on house prices. We live near Ashford, Kent and prices have gone up by about 75% in 3 years. Part of this is due to the new high speed rail link that's being buit to the Continent. First stop will be Ashford.

Prices are predicted to go up faster here than possibly anywhere else in the country between now and when the line's finished. This used to be a cheap area for the South East, but not for long.

Why is it that everyones local rag recon they are having the biggest house price rises?!Seems to me were all in the same boat, prices here in exeter have gone through the roof and the arrival of the met office from Bracknall next year aint helping, I'm lucky enough to have a reasonably well paid job but pending divorce means a slide down the ladder and a 1 bed starter home in exeter is also 80-90k but renting aint much better 2 bed housing association flats (if you can get one) start at £500 a month, equivalent of 70k mortgage.

What ever anyone says as soon as people at the bottom stop buying the market slows and stops so whos buying now?!

it makes me laugh at the clammer for "affordable housing" if your getting less than 10k a year (and lots of jobs here are for that or less) NO housing is affordable ,and the housing for nescessary people such as nurses ,the nurses home at our local hospital is empty and ramshckle and has been for ten years its all balony ,look at all the wasted flats above shops empty most of them ,give them a grant to provide access and refurbish them ,it will cost a fraction of building new homes
