I've been away on holiday for a few days so havent seen all of your replies but am very interested in trying budgies bouyant bugs when I get back in a few days.

NB. I've been using various suspended baits over the last 40 to 50 years both below the surface and on the surface but I am intrigued as to why they started to be called zig rigs as they are not anything new.

Was it anything to do with zig at anglers paradise?

I've heard two storys on "zig rig". First, Zyg was the guy (angler) who first described the method, use and function. Second, Zyg is a medical prefix for a connection or junction in two devices.

I don't know if either is correct. Much of Europe call them "zyg rigs". It is not a common rig in America execpt by ex-Pats (not a "named" rig).

A small farm pond (1 acre) near me stocked some grassies a few years ago to try and tackle the weed problem they had. I was advised to try bread crust and dog biscuits, but had no luck. Eventually had a 6lb on double red maggot!! Only other one I've had since was a 14lb on cell at Celtic lakes. Very hard fighting fish, and tempted to go back to the farm to see what size they are now, as it was 2008 when I caught it...
