Don't know what type of e-mail system you are using but I've used this program in the past to clear out mailboxes, which have been rather full, but not quite as bad as yours I might add. Saves a bit of time by not actually downloading the messages.

For anyone else who gets problems with large attachments etc, this allows you to delete a message(s) without actually downloading it.
