Orvis Zero Gravity Rods

I've just received an email from Orvis, informing me that they have £100 off their Zero Gravity rods (excluding Helios) for a limited time.

I know next to nothing about fly rods, so please click here for more details if you're interested at all.

The do seem sorta pricy even after the £100 discount but I'm like you - I know bupkis about it.

I did see where a single buyer on ebay has just finished buying some Sage Z-axis rods. He bought a #4, #5, #6, and a pair of #7 fly rods and paid an average of around £330 each at auction (and lively auctions they were). I'm sure they must be wonderful to fish with but that is A LOT of money to my mind.

As I build top end fly rods I know what the parts cost me, and I am paying just about full retail. Rods from companies like Orvis, Loomis Hardy and Sage are massively overpriced. Most of them offer a "lifetime guarantee" but with the prices you pay to begin with you have already bought the first 5 replacements. They also charge anywhere from 30 - 50 pounds "handling" fee. This probably pays for the new rod from china.

Then, to add insult to injury you can buy exactly the same rods in the States for around half the price you pay here.

If you want a top end fly rod for a reasonable price try a St Croix sourced from the States (Sorry Elton  )

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.
