Euromillion lottery (Spain)

Recommended Posts

Really stupid, or really greedy or both.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
Vaut mieux ne rien dire et passer pour un con que de parler et prouver que t'en est un!
Mi, ch’fais toudis à m’mote

I have little sympathy generally with people that fall for this scam.

They get a message, to an email address they have never given, from a lottery they perhaps have never participated in, from a country they sometimes have never even visited.....and they fall for it. Sometimes the word "stupid" just isn't enough.

In this particular case, people who fell for it were invited to Spain, on arrival met by some of the Nigerians...(Euromillions???)...and offered their prize money in US dollars cash (Euromillions???)

They were then given the option of "increasing their winnings" , by being paid in US dollars that had been Quote:"tinted black to get them out of a war torn African country" (Euromillions???)

This scam is known here as "las cartas negras"..Victims are shown a couple of real banknotes at the beginning and end of a huge pile..The rest are light black coloured pieces of paper. The gang tells the victim that this has been done so that they are not recognised as banknotes when they are smuggled out of Africa...(Euromillions???)They then apply a solvent to one particular black piece of paper, and the colour comes off to reveal a high value US dollar bill.

They are then offered the chance to buy the huge pile of black paper and cleaning solvent for as much as they can get from the victim.

After they pay up and the gang disapears..They discover that they have in fact bought..Surprise!!.Black pieces of paper.

Now as you can see...Anybody that thinks that they get paid for winning a prize on Euromillions in this manner, is not just stupid, but terminally thick as well as accomplice to fraud. That is why the true amounts defrauded in these cases are never known. Many people don't go to the police for fear they themselves will be prosecuted.
