Weird creature ID

Just got back from an evening mullet blank but the highlight of the night was seeing dozens of these:-

in a corner of my local harbour. In the water they looked like a cross between a slug and a jellyfish...just pulsing below the surface and rising to apparently take in some air. When netted out they just curled into a ball as pictured. Having checked my schoolboys' guide to the seashore to no avail, does anyone know what they are?

Jim, If you don't get the answer here, try asking at:

http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/Glaucus/

They are good at identifying unusual sea creatures.

Good forum...they got it in one! Looks like it is "Ackera Bullata" a type of sea slug. Some info here:-

The pics of them swimming near bottom of page is exactly what I saw. Apparently they are quite rare.
