hi guys dont know if anybody han help but im having an argument with my local yacht club. i own a 26ft fishing boat (just for me and my mates to go out fishing on) i have had the boat for 2 years now on moorings i have laid my self well away from there moorings. there moorings float all the time where as mine dryes out on mud. anyway now they are trying to charge me to "plot" my mooring at a rate of £30 per year £7 of which goes to the royal charter £23 for there "administration" costs

can any body enlighten me on the law regarding this and will i have to pay them or can i pay the royal charter direct

or if i even have to pay them at all

thanks for any help on this matter

:schmoll: Basically it depends on what you signed up to when you joined. I used to have a berth at a 'yacht club' for my boat and after about 3 years I got chucked out because they changed the meaning of 'yacht' from a pleasure craft to a sailing boat and mine was a 17ft motor boat. They changed their terms at the AGM so was perfectly democratic, although 90% of the members had sailing boats. I even paid the RYA levy in my fees but they wanted all yellow welly brigade. What annoyed me most was when I was asked to use my boat as a safety boat for a regatta:angry:

im not actualy in the club it is just nearby. now they have deciced and aproched the royal charter to act as agents to collect the fees from whoever has a mooring on this stretch of mud. they dont have my name or address and only know me as ray. what i need to find out is what can they do? can they remove my boat although it is not on there mooring or on there land

I think the foreshore is generally owned by the Crown estate, I remember big arguments in the Exe over mooring fees, but f they own the rights or administer them, then you'll have to cough up. sorry!

i think £30 a year is a steal we were paying £80 a year for drying moorings (really cheap as it was only accessible 2 hours each side of high tide) in 1990 in pompy harbour ,it went up to £120 a couple of years later which we couldnt afford so had the pleasure again of public slips and towing it back and forth each trip
