How would you do it?

Dave clipping your line won't damage your line as long as your casting right. I don't want to teach u to suck eggs however I do see people on the bank casting wrong which would cause the line to snap at the clip, when casting after you release your finger from the line bring the rod back to a vertical position when it reaches the line clip the feeder will tighten the line and your rod tip will cushion the fall of the feeder into the water this is 2 fold the line will be tight (no bow) and also the hook length will land flat in the water so no wrapping round your feeder this is called feathering. Again I sincerely apologise if I'm sounding patronising

Not patronising at all mate I've only recently started clipping up as I thought it was just for carpers fishing on big reservoirs and stuff, starting to wonder how I ever fished without clipping up! Thanks

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

Minced prawn and crumb...ball it in round the margins and fish whole prawn on a size 10 under a waggler, hard on the bottom.

Thanks, sounds good for the perch too!

Try Bloedmeal tench additive by Van den eynde. Others are available if you google them

The two best times to go fishing are when it's raining and when it's not

Semi fixed bolt rigged maggot feeders with a very short hook length and small hooks can be a very good method on a lot of waters. You can still clip up and feed very accurately.

Sounds very simular to a pond I fished for a few hours the first time yesterday evening. I fished the pole chopped worm, caster and hemp over the top of a sweet fishmeal groundbait (a bit of corn and a few maggots were in the groundbait).

I had 5 bream, two tench and a couple of dozen perch: 3 of the perch were a 1lb +.

Smile they said life could get worse, I did and it was

Also sounds like one of the waters I fish.

I catch the Tench on float gear on expander pellet fished over 4mm hard pellets.

The bream get caught on method feeders with corn, dead maggot, small boilies or worm. A sweet fishmeal ground bait with 2 Or 4mm softened pellets mixed in on the feeder or vital in dog food.

I would try and find where the undertow ends and fish there.

A slider float set up is also well worth a go.

Different floats for different folks!

Vitalin, crushed and packed with corn and small halibut pellets, I'd be thinking about balling in 10 or so big balls of groundbait to cover the bottom shelf while I set up, then fishing over the top either lift style with a driftbeater or a short hooklength 3" bolt rig.

Or a big lobworm!
