I'll be in South Devon in a few weeks and fancy a shot at the mullet in the freshwater section of the river Axe somewhere near or upstream of the A3052 bridge.

Can anyone recommend a spot with dayticket or free fishing using coarse tackle ?

I am not interested in any trout or seatrout that might be running...

Thanks guys but I'm ideally looking to get upstream away from the mud and/or shingle because it's really about trying to get my dad his first mullet and he's not to steady on his feet.

Years ago, we fished a little section below a weir next to the Whitford road but I'm not sure whether that is now free fishing, owned by a club or what.

I tried fishing for them in the harbour just upstream of the bridge. When the tides in I am sure you will find an easy bit of bank. They're a sod to catch though.

Axe - it's a typo.

 

However, there is a River Ave, it flows through Avebury. Feeds into four other small tributaries, and in turn creates the Avebury ring.
